Background Information

The information that is provided before a Language Analysis piece is referred to as the background information and often contains details such as the name of the writer and the place the piece was published. In a standard VCAA English exam this can be found on the page before the Language Analysis piece.

Why is background information important?

Useful information that often appears in the background information of a Language Analysis piece includes:

  • Writer’s name
  • Publication or location where the piece appeared
  • Date of publication or performance
  • Intended audience
  • Definitions or explanations of the issues discussed
