Format

The format refers to the type of piece being analysed. In VCAA Language Analysis there are many different types of pieces that can appear.

Examples

Some formats that may appear for analysis include:

  • An article
  • A speech
  • A newsletter
  • A review
  • An opinion piece
  • An open letter
  • A letter to the editor
  • An advertisement
  • The transcript of a debate
  • The transcript of a radio or television program
  • An editorial

Past exam formats

While there is a tendency to focus on newspaper articles throughout the year, VCAA exams in the past six years have contained a range of formats:

2008     An open letter in a local sports club’s newsletter
