The Show trials of the Bolsheviks’ political rivals the Social Revolutionaries occurred in 1922. It was a set of staged trials. They aimed to act as a warning against those who would in the future act out against the Bolshevik regime. It was essentially hence, a purging of opposition. It openly highlighted how Russia was now an authoritarian, one-party state, where it was illegal to oppose the Party.
