Original and appellate jurisdiction
Original court jurisdiction refers to the power that courts have to hear cases for the first time. Conversely, appellate jurisdiction refers to the power that courts have to hear appeals from lower courts in the hierarchy.
Course content
Students must know the original and appellate jurisdictions of the Victorian Magistrates’ Court, the County Court, Supreme Court (Trial Division) and Supreme Court (Court of Appeal).
